Climate change – also known as global warming – is the process of our planet heating up.
The planet is surrounded by something called the atmosphere which contains gases that act like a blanket to protect us from the sun’s rays and to keep the coldness of space out. Its job is to try to keep the planet at the right temperature.
The problem is that many of our everyday activities release greenhouse gases, such as heating our homes and running a car. These gases get trapped in the atmosphere, making that protective blanket thicker, warming up the planet.
Unfortunately, rising temperatures don’t just mean that we’ll get nicer weather. The changing climate will actually make our weather more extreme and unpredictable. Heavy rain could cause more flooding, for example.
The good news is we can all do our bit to fight climate change. We hope you find some useful ideas on these pages to help!
