This week (8 – 14 May 2023) marks National Hedgerow Week!
Did you know that hedgerows provide a home for 80% of our woodland birds, hedgehogs, bats, great crested newt, dormice and butterflies? They play an important role in connecting habitats and protecting against air pollution.
Sadly though we’ve lost 50% of our hedgerows since World War II – and around 60% of the hedgerows we still have aren’t in good condition. We need to protect them.
Hedgelink brings together organisations and individuals with a love of hedgerows. They share knowledge and ideas to encourage and inspire everyone to take action to manage, protect and conserve our hedgerows for the future.
This National Hedgerow Week, Hedgelink has organised a range of activities to celebrate the importance of these unsung biodiversity heroes including tips on planting a hedge and a series of free online talks. To find out more, visit their website.
