Calling all heathland habitat helpers! Last call for 2023

November 27, 2023

The Surrey Heathland Partnership conservation crew has returned to Woking this autumn.

Local people are invited to get involved with enjoyable countryside volunteering, to help restore and maintain the rare heathland habitat right on your doorstep.

Why not come and give it a try? The more the merrier!

The crew will be clearing invasive scrub (such as birch and pine) with hand tools – ideal for anyone new to conservation volunteering. There are still a couple of dates available in 2023!

  • Weds 6 Dec at Smarts Heath West
  • Weds 20 Dec at Brookwood Heath

The team will be on site from 10am to 3pm and you can join in for a full day or just the morning if preferred.

Please wear old clothes, stout footwear and bring your own lunch/drink. Surrey Heathland Partnership will provide tools, gloves, instruction, insurance and tea/coffee/biscuits. Please note that this type of conservation task is aimed at over 16s.

Check out the Surrey Heathland Partnership website for full details.

Please email heathlandproject@surreycc.gov.uk to let them know in advance that you would like to volunteer and to receive further details.

For further information about the work of the Partnership visit their website.

Corporate team countryside volunteering sessions are available by arrangement – please contact the team for details.

The conservation crew look forward to welcoming you.
